PORTAGE, Mich.- The excitement of air and space can be experienced without ever leaving Portage and without battling outdoor elements.
The Air Zoo has won “Best Place to Take Out-of-Towners” and “Best Place to Spend a Day with Your Family” three years in a row, according to its website. From flight simulators, amusement park-style rides and historical exhibits, the Air Zoo also has 50 historic and rare aircraft, too. It’s been a family favorite for more than 30 years and continues to expand.
Located halfway between Detroit and Chicago, 6151 Portage Road in Portage, Mich., it’s $10 for general admission or an upgraded ride plan at $16.50.
On Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the EAA Young Eagles program will be offering free airplane rides at the Air Zoo’s East Campus for kids ages 8 to 17.
For more information, call 269-599-0122.
The flights will last about 15 minutes and the air-crafts are FAA-registered and flown by a licensed and insured pilot.
