DETROIT, Mich – Miguel Cabrera had 4 hits including his 100th career home run at Comerica Park and Anibal Snachez pitched 7 strong innings as Detroit beat Toronto 7-3 to open a 3 game series.
Torri Hunter was 3-5 which included his 2,000 career hit. Alex Avila hit his 2nd home run of the season, a solo shot that gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Cabrera’s home run, his 1st of the season, was a 3-run homer that chased Jays starting pitcher Brandon Morrow from the game in the bottom of the 4th. Morrow pitched 3.2 allowed 9 hits, 5 runs all earned, walked 2 and did not strike out a batter.
Sanchez (1-0) allowed 5 hits, 2 runs both earned, walked 1 and struck out 8.
Detroit (4-3) and Toronto (2-5) will play again tomorrow at 1:08 P.M. at Comerica Park, Rick Porcello (0-1) will take on Mark Buehrle (0-0).
