GRAND RAPIDS, MI- Dave Agema, a former West Michigan state representative, is sparking national attention after posting “Everyone Should Know These Statistics on Homosexuals” written by Frank Joseph, M.D. on his Facebook page.

The article says that homosexuals cannot produce naturally, and therefore recruit children and are responsible for spreading AIDS in the United States.  It goes on to say “The love between men and boys is at the foundation of homosexuality.”

Democrats and Republicans alike are calling for Agema’s resignation.  A statement from a group of Michigan Republican leaders reads:

“This isn’t about what we believe either politically or as men and women of faith, this is about common decency and realizing that you cannot win an election by insulting a wide swath of the electorate, whose votes our Republican Party needs to once again form a national majority. We do not have confidence in Mr. Agema representing the best interests of our fellow Michigan Republicans and as a result ask him to resign from his seat on the Republican National Committee.”

Agema says “I copied  and pasted an article written by a medical Dr. Frank Joseph ( similar articles have been written by Family Research Council and AFA-all with footnotes and studies shown) and a few liberal Republicans and publications have chosen to take the words of the study  and cast them as my own.  I think it was a piece worth sharing given the debate over gay marriage that is happening in the Supreme Court. I strongly maintain my position in support of marriage as being between a man and a woman and will not back down from my core beliefs in support of strengthening the family.”
