GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A rollover crash hurt at least one person and caused backups in both directions of I-96 for more than an hour Tuesday morning.
The crash was first reported shortly after 7 a.m. on westbound I-96 between the Coit Avenue overpass and the Monroe Avenue bridges east of US-131. A white SUV rolled, coming to rest on the crossover.
Emergency personnel blocked the left lane of both eastbound and westbound I-96. After about a half hour, both eastbound lanes were reopened, but traffic continued to be slow and backed up to Bristol Avenue west of Alpine Avenue. Drivers taking the ramp from southbound US-131 to eastbound I-96 were also delayed, causing a slowdown on southbound US-131.
The scene was cleared around 8:15 a.m.
There was no early word on the condition of the SUV’s occupant.
