PORTLAND, Mich — The eastbound lanes of I-96 were closed early Monday in Portland by several crashes.
Calls went out from Ionia Central Dispatch around 5:45 a.m. of maybe six vehicles involved in crashes near Exit 77/Grand River Avenue.
When officers arrived on the scene, they described to dispatchers an accident scene that was 150-200 yards long. The expressway was closed just before 6 a.m., with eastbound traffic routed onto Grand River Drive to reenter I-96 at mile marker 84 at the Eagle exit.
No cause was immediately known for the crashes.
The highway was reopened around 7:15 a.m.
