WEST MICHIGAN — Frost and Freeze advisories have been posted for the early morning hours of Saturday. Officially, much of the viewing area is under a Frost Advisory for between midnight and 8 A.M. Newaygo and Mecosta Counties are under a Freeze Warning for between midnight and 8 A.M.
Skies are expected to be mostly clear to partly cloudy in the overnight period along with very light winds. With a dry atmosphere in place represented by dew points projected to drop into the lower to middle 30s, favorable radiational cooling factors will be with us again overnight tonight.
Locations well north of I-96 in the Freeze Warning are expected to drop to sub-freezing temperatures for a few hours in the overnight. Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo/Battle Creek will likely experience low temps in the range of 34-36 degrees. The immediate Lakeshore should see lows in the 36-39 degree range so prospects for frost look low for these communities. Inland sections of the lakeshore counties do, however, have a chance to see some frost.
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. Freezing temperatures will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. Frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered.
