DETROIT — The Detroit Tigers would like everyone to know they drafted Kansas City quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes first.

The team tweeted a congratulations to Mahomes Sunday night after leading the Chiefs to a 31-20 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Mahomes was selected in the 37th round by Detroit out of high school.

Instead of going to spring training with the Tigers, Mahomes enrolled at Texas Tech and has gone on to be an NFL and Super Bowl MVP.
Sunday night’s game made the Tigers the first team in Detroit to draft a quarterback who played in a Super Bowl.
