October 24th cannot come soon enough for Big Ten football fans.

While the Wolverines are breaking in players at new positions around the squad, they pretty much are business as usual.

That certainly hasn't been the case in East Lansing.

New head coach Mel Tucker and his staff have been held off the field with their players since March, and beyond workouts, they're still figuring out what they have to work with as they try to get the Spartans back to the upper echelon of the conference.

Tucker wouldn't name a starting quarterback on Wednesday, as he says the competition is still ongoing as the four players on the roster bring different talents to the field.

"The competition is good in that quarterback room, Coach Johnson is doing an outstanding job with them and there's good working relationships and good healthy competition and everyone is trying to help each other get better," Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker said.

As for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines, they're currently still awaiting a formal decision of Joe Milton being named the starting quarterback.

During a zoom meeting with reporters on Wednesday, running backs coach Jay Harbaugh spoke of the excitement level that is palpable around Schembechler Hall.

"The focus has been great, the excitement has been consistent, the enthusiasm has not wained at all, it just continues to get better and better," Jay Harbaugh said.

The Spartans will look to begin prep work for Rutgers ten days before their home opener, while Michigan knows what type of challenge Minnesota will pose in Minneapolis, both teams open their seasons on October 24th.
