(WXYZ) — The Michigan Humane Society welcomed more than 50 at-risk shelter dogs from New Orleans on New Year's Eve.

The organization said in a press release that they worked in partnership with Wings of Rescue, iHeartDogs.com and Greater Good Charities to receive the animals that will be transported to Michigan Humane facilities in the metro Detroit area.

According to the release, this partnership helps keep high-risk animals out of overcrowded shelters.

Michigan Humane says each of the dogs will receive health checks and any necessary treatment before being cleared for adoption.
