WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 44-year-old woman was shot and killed at a strip mall in Warren early Monday morning, police say.
The shooting occurred at a strip mall located south of I-696 on Hoover Road.
Police say that her daughter said her mother texted her that she arrived at the Rue 21 clothing store where she worked, to pick her up. When she went outside, she discovered her mother's car several hundred yards across the parking lot, crashed near a cart corral, dead from a single gunshot wound.
Police say a man approached the woman, shot her from behind, and then walked and jogged away. The vehicle rolled forward and crashed to a stop.
The woman has been identified as Jennifer Wentz. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help with funeral expenses.
Investigators say the incident appears to be a attempted carjacking robbery.
