PASADENA, Calif. — The organizers of the Tournament of Roses Parade, a a 131-year-old tradition every New Year's Day, have cancelled the parade for Jan. 1, 2021.

“Obviously this is not what any of us wanted, and we held off on announcing until we were absolutely sure that safety restrictions would prevent us from continuing with planning for 132nd Rose Parade," said 2021 parade president Bob Miller in a statement on the Pasadena Tournament of Roses website.

Preparations were already underway, including invitations to local bands to march in the parade.

The parade has only been cancelled three other times, all in years during World War II: 1942, 1943, and 1945.
