WEST MICHIGAN — Kwave Summer Fest
On Saturday, a free community festival celebrating Korean culture is coming to Heroes and Sheroes in Kentwood. Expect to see live performances, food, local vendors, educational exhibits and family activities. This year, organizers are recognizing the friendship betweek the U.S. and South Korea, with a special tribute to Korean War Veterans.
Local Art at the Grand Rapids Public Museum
From 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Saturday, The Urban Sketchers and the Hot Gleux Creux are leading demonstrations and workshops along the Grand River. Think fish prints and urban sketching. The event is part of the Summer Saturdays Series.
Kalamazoo Moonlight Music Festival
The Old Dog Tavern will be the destination for performances from more than 15 artists and bands, more than 8 local vendors, food, art and a full day of live music. The luneup includes Kalamazoo Native & Americal Idol Finalist Matt Giraud, Wavy Awakening, Sophistafunk out of Syracuse, Yellowhouse, Casey & The Cat Paws, and Park Street Phantom. Festival founder Gibson Tucker says the whole point is giving local artists a platform. Tickets are $20.
Coast Guard Festival
Grand Haven is finishing up the Coast Guard Festival with a full schedule. The Merchants & Makers Market is taking over Central Park, with more than 140 makers and artisans from across the state. Enjoy live music, food trucks, crafts, art and more! The Grand Parade kicks off at 11:45 A.M.
Fossil Casting at The Muskegon Museum of History and Science
Part of the August Saturdays Series, this event takes you back in time. Around 541 to 359 million years ago, Michigan was covered by ocean water teeming with aquatic life. Stop in to learn about some of the ancient creatures who swam in those waters, and make your own fossil casting to take home. The event is free for members and Muskegon County Residents.
