NEW BUFFALO CITY, Mich. — Authorities responded to a structure fire in New Buffalo City early Thursday morning.
The fire broke out at a residential building on Water Street, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
We’re told the caller, a 72-year-old woman, was trapped in her home and was unable to escape on her own.
Police say they arrived on the scene to find the back of the house engulfed in flames, adding that forced entry was impossible due to heavy smoke.
Deputy Michael Pellerito located the homeowner with the help of county dispatchers and pulled her to safety from a bedroom window, authorities say.
The sheriff’s department says the homeowner was transported by paramedics to be treated for minor smoke inhalation, adding that no additional injuries were reported.
