GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — FOX 17 is partnering with the Versiti Blood Center of Michigan for a blood drive during the season of giving.

Every two seconds, someone needs life-saving blood but only 10% of Americans who can donate blood do.

To meet the needs of its partners, Versiti must collect 560 units of blood daily. All blood types are currently needed, but the organization is especially in need of O-positive and O-negative blood.

Donating blood takes about an hour and anyone who is at least 17 years old and meets eligibility requirements is encouraged to give. Parental consent is required for donors who are 16.

Donors have to present a valid photo ID that includes their birthdate.

Appointments can be scheduled online or by calling Versiti at 1-866-642-5663.
