PAW PAW, Mich. — The Van Buren County Board of Commissioners has established the Palisades Community Advisory Panel.

The move was made to offer transparency, education and public involvement in the pending shutdown of the Palisades Power Plant, according to the Van Buren Office of County Administrator.

We’re told the plant will permanently close in spring 2022.

“Palisades has been a part of this community for nearly 50 years,” says Commission Chair Richard Godfrey. “The County has taken prudent actions to prepare for a 2022 shutdown, but the fact remains that the work at Palisades will be far from over once the plant ceases operation.”

“The Board of Commissioners recognizes this desire for information,” adds Godfrey, “which is why we are today announcing the creation of public panel to educate and advise on post-closure activities.”

Members of the advisory panel will be represented by those of diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, according to the Board of Commissioners. New details are expected early into 2021.
