WAYLAND, Mich. — Police are investigating a report of a person who tried to lure a middle school student at a bus stop into a vehicle.

The student refused and reported the incident this morning to the bus driver shortly afterward, according to a letter today to parents and staff by Wayland Union Schools Superintendent Christina Hinds.

The student is safe.

The district immediately reported the incident to police.

Hinds says a deputy with the Allegan County Sheriff's Office and district security officer "responded promptly" to investigate.

Hinds asks parents to talk with their child about "stranger danger" and reporting "suspicious activity to a trusted adult."
