Re-ignited fire in Kalamazoo leaves KDPS firefighter injured

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A Kalamazoo home under renovation was reported having smoke at 1:30 a.m. according to Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) Fire crews responded and put out the fire at 1:30 p.m. leaving one firefighter with minor injuries.

At 6 p.m. Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety received a call that the fire re-ignited. Attempting to save parts of the home, KDPS did not rip down all walls, ceilings and insulation causing smoldering and eventual re-igniting of the fire from earlier.

The origin of the fire is unknown and caused the blocking of South St. along with the presence of about 15 police cars, 2 or 3 firetrucks, and an ambulance. This story will be updated with more details as they become available.
