BENTON HARBOR, Mich. — Three people were shot during a shooting Tuesday afternoon in Benton Harbor, the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety announced Wednesday.

Police responded to what was originally reported as a traffic crash about 5 p.m. in the 1100 block of McAllister. It was later reported as a person lying on the ground with a gunshot wound next to a crashed vehicle.

Officers found two men with gunshot wounds when they arrived at the scene, and medics transported them to Lakeland Hospital for treatment.

A third gunshot victim drove directly to the hospital, according to a news release.

Investigators say the shooting happened on the road while the men were driving, and two people fled the scene before police arrived.

The shooter and the vehicle they were in have not yet been identified.

Two of the men shot are in critical condition and the third is stable with a wound to the arm, police said.
