LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has taken executive action to ban all events including 50 or more people starting Tuesday to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
The restrictions are in addition to orders forcing bars and other service businesses to close and restaurants to stop dine-in service.
Michigan’s total of coronavirus cases increased to 54 people on Monday after a woman in Macomb County tested positive.
The executive order goes into effect at 9 a.m. Tuesday and will remain in place until 5 p.m. April 5. Exceptions to the ban include public transportation, stores and workplaces.
“My administration will continue to do everything we can to mitigate the spread of the disease and ensure our children, families, and businesses have the support they need during these challenging times. We are going to pull through this together, just as Michigan has done in the past,” Whitmer said in a release.
