DETROIT — Detroit’s fire commissioner is investigating after a photo showing city firefighters standing in front of a burning house posing for a photo was shared on social media.
The photo was posted to a Facebook page called Detroit Fire Incidents page on New Year’s Eve and has since been removed. On Thursday, a post on the page said a Detroit firefighter asked them to post it and that it was taken down because they had been “threatened” for it.
The Detroit Fire Department told WXYZ the house that was on fire and the one next to it were both vacant.
Detroit Fire Commissioner Eric Jones gave a statement regarding the photo:
“There are a lot of ways to celebrate a retirement. Taking a photo in front of a building fire is not one of them. We will investigate this matter and follow the facts where they lead us. If this photo is verified, discipline will be in order.”
