NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. — Michigan State Police arrested 42-year-old Jason William Wardell of Muskegon on Monday morning in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed two over the weekend.

The crash happened about 3:45 p.m. Saturday at 56th Street and Newcosta Avenue in Newaygo County, police said.

Police say a silver-colored vehicle began passing another vehicle and entered oncoming traffic on 56th Street before hitting a motorcycle, killing both its riders. The silver vehicle then fled the area.

Wardell was arrested early Monday morning and arraigned on two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, resulting in death, two counts of operating with a suspended license and a habitual fourth offense notice, according to police.

He is being held at Newaygo County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
