A Lansing police officer has been put on administrative leave with pay after video of an arrest began circulating on social media.

The Lansing Police Department on Wednesday gave a rundown of what happened during the incident, posting to the Facebook page.

According to police, on Nov. 10 around 11: 21 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Baker Street after reports of a fight involving five to six people.

At the scene, the Lansing officers "made contact" with three people standing in the roadway. The officers determined one of the men, age 25, was the primary suspect in the assault incident. The department says the officers "made further contact" with the 25-year-old suspect, trying to arrest him for assault.

The 25-year-old resisted the officers' attempt to place him under arrest, according to the Lansing Police Department. The suspect allegedly continued being "combative" as more officers responded to the scene to help the arresting officer.

According to LPD, "during the lengthy struggle to secure the suspect, officers deployed a Taser and delivered strikes. The suspect was arrested and transported to a local hospital to be evaluated, which is standard protocol after a Taser deployment. The suspect was cleared from the hospital and transported to the Lansing Police Detention facility."

Formal charges will be sought with the Ingham County Prosecutor, the department says.

Two officers sustained minor injuries during the altercation.

Chief Daryl Green completed a preliminary inquiry on the incident and placed one officer on administrative leave with pay, pending a formal internal affairs investigation and review of the actions of all involved officers.
