GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Jenna Betka-Pope is being recognized for her Excellence in Education.
Jenna teaches at the Excel Charter Academy in Grand Rapids.
Eirann Betka-Pope, Jenna’s nominator, says, “I nominated Jenna for the Excellence in education award not just because she's an excellent educator but because she's an advocate for her students as well.”
“Working in special education I think that a lot of students have never had very high expectations put on them,” says Betka-Pope. “When I get them in middle school, I try really hard to persuade them to have high expectations for themselves.”
The Michigan Lottery has awarded Jenna with a $1,500 check, and her class receives a grant valued at $500.
