LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State Capitol Commission will meet Monday afternoon to discuss open carrying of guns at the Capitol.
An agendaposted to the commission’s website says the meeting will be at 1 p.m.
Debate over guns at the Capitol has been ongoing but received renewed attention after the riots at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.

“I’ve continued to say that it’s not a matter of if something happens, if violence reaches our doors, reaches our building, it’s a matter of when,” Rep. Sarah Anthony told Fox 17 earlier this week.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel also tells us the state Capitol isn’t safe without a ban on guns.
She even advised people not to go to the state Capitol if they could avoid it and wants all weapons banned there, including guns.

“The fact that we’ve had this set of circumstances occur now, not just of course, in our own capitol, where very easily those individuals could have taken hostages could have caused a massacre, but when we saw what happened of course at the Nation's capitol yesterday. If that doesn't inspire either the Capital Commission, or the state legislature to take immediate action to ban all weapons including guns from the Capitol. I don't know what well, it is not a safe place to be,” Nessel said.
On Thursday morning, the Capitol was briefly closed because of another threat.
