SARANAC, Mich. — Desiree Gorby has found herself entering the third round of a worldwide baking competition that emphasizes the aesthetics of her creations.

She got her start after discovering a social media post calling for a chance to earn the title of Greatest Baker of 2020. "I’m like ‘there’s a shot. I’ve been doing this since I was thirteen so I’d love the opportunity to take it to the next level'," says Gorby.

Competitors were put into blind groups, so at first no one knows just how many people they are up against at any given time.

Desiree is the wife of a Marine, whose deployments makes it difficult to stay planted in one area. But, she says winning would open some serious doors for her.

“If you win you get publicized in a magazine called From Scratch Magazine and then you also get $10,000, which if I was to win I would just dump that in a bakery," she continues. "Once he [my husband] retires in twelve years, I can make some roots, start my own bakery, and make a dream happen."

The third round only lasts for a week, and the whole competition ends on December 10. If you would like to check out all the creations, you can find more details here. To see her profile and current standing, click here.
