Forest Hills Eastern assistant principal dies of COVID-19, cancer complications

FOREST HILLS, Mich. — Monday evening, Forest Hills Eastern announced the passing of Mr. Tim Hollern, assistant principal of at the school. Hollern passed away from COVID-19, along with complications from his nine-year fight with metastatic cancer.

Mr. Hollern began his tenure in Forest Hills as a teacher at Northern High School in 2000. He became the assistant principal/athletic director at FH Eastern High School in 2007 and assistant principal at FH Eastern High in 2010.

In 2019, Mr. Hollern also took on the responsibility as principal for Goodwillie Environmental School.

"During his 20 years in Forest Hills Public Schools, Mr. Hollern had a profound and positive impact on thousands of students and colleagues," said Superintedent Dan Behm in a letter addressed to the Forest Hills community. "Mr. Hollern was a beloved teacher, coach, and school administrator, and was always focused on everyone else and what he could do to help a student, a colleague, or a stranger. He loved coming to work and serving his school and community."

Forest Hills' crisis team is available to anyone who may need to talk with a grief counselor. They advise to simply reach out to a principal and they can establish a connection.

Mr. Hollern is survived by his wife and children.
