SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — Police are investigating an incident last night involving gunshots after "many visitors" arrived in South Haven for a beach party.
The South Haven Police Department received information on the party, which was advertised on Facebook, yesterday afternoon, according to the department today.
Officers responded several times yesterday to reports of large groups on both North Beach and South Beach.
Two assaults were reported.
Officers also also responded to complaints of groups at other locations throughout the evening.
The department was assisted by the Van Buren County Sheriff's Department, Michigan State Police and Pokagon Tribal Police.
Just before midnight, the department said residents of Fruit Street helped officers clear a group "not from the area."
Gunshots were reported, and two vehicles were found damaged.
The department does not have information on any injuries, and there was no evidence of injury, as of this morning.
"What happened last night is not acceptable for our community, and we are working together," the department said.
