PORT SHELDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A St. Clair woman was seriously injured and her young daughter was also hurt when the sled they were riding struck a tree in a park Sunday morning.

At 10:16 a.m. Sunday, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a sledding accident with injuries at the Van Buren Street Dunes, located at 16780 Van Buren St. in Port Sheldon Township. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found a 38-year-old woman from St. Clair with serious injuries and her 4-year-old daughter from St. Clair with minor injuries.

The investigation showed that the two were sledding in the park and struck a tree. The woman was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The girl was evaluated at the scene by medical personnel.

Port Sheldon Township used an ATV to enter the area and remove the woman, who was then turned over to AMR Ambulance workers.

The victims were visiting relatives who reside in the Holland area.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
