OLIVE TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A woman and two of her children were taken to the hospital with serious injuries Monday after a crash involving a semi at an Ottawa County intersection.

It happened around 10:19 a.m. at the intersection of 96th Avenue and Polk Street in Olive Township.

Authorities say a semi hauling two empty trailers tried to stop for slowed and stopped traffic on northbound 96th Avenue, causing it to veer in the southbound lanes. A woman driving south on 96th Avenue was unable to avoid the truck and hit it head-on.

The woman was trapped inside her vehicle for an extended period of time before being taken to the hospital by Aero Med in critical condition. Her two children, ages 2 and 4, were taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in serious condition.
