GRAND HAVEN, Mich. — Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the area of Sheldon Road and Arlington Avenue in Grand Haven this afternoon.
A 17-year-old resident of the home had assaulted two members of his family, according to the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety.
Police say they found the suspect in a bedroom with a knife to his throat, adding that the suspect rushed at the officers with the knife after a taser was ineffectively deployed.
We’re told police left the room and slammed the door, leading to a standoff and crisis negotiations. The suspect reportedly surrendered at around 7 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
“The responding officers made split second decisions and displayed a high level of restraint during the arrest,” says Jeff Hawke, Director of Public Safety. “We are grateful that this incident ended without injury.”
