HOLLAND, Mich. — An early evening crash at the intersection of Lakewood and the Ramp to hop onto North Bound U.S. 31 in Holland Township left both drivers injured.

Around 5:30, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office along with Holland Township Fire and AMR Ambulance responded to the injury accident.

A Ford pickup being driven by a 33-year-old Hamilton man was headed east on Lakewood approaching the intersection for the Ramp to head North Bound on U.S. 31.

The driver of the Ford stated he was distracted by his Bluetooth and did not see the Chevrolet being driven by a 74-year-old Grand Rapids resident, entering Lakewood from a private drive and struck it.

The Ford then ran off the roadway and rolled into a ditch. A witness stated that the traffic light at the intersection had turned green for the private drive and traffic on Lakewood had come to a stop when the Ford continued into the intersection.

The driver of the Chevrolet suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Zeeland Hospital by AMR. The driver of the Ford Pickup was left with minor injuries, cited and released.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
