ZEELAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Police responded to a crash involving one vehicle on I-196 near Byron Friday afternoon.

A 35-year-old male from Hamilton was driving west along I-196 in a 2005 Chevrolet van when he lost control and rolled a number of times into a ditch, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. They say roads were icy at the time.

We’re told three occupants were inside the vehicle, including passengers aged five and eleven years. Police say the 5-year-old was properly secured in a car seat, but the 11-year-old was ejected from the vehicle; he was not wearing a seatbelt, according to authorities.

Ottawa County police say all occupants sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a hospital following the crash.

The incident is under investigation.
