FRUITLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Two people are dead following a crash in Fruitland Township this afternoon, according to Capt. Shane Brown with the Muskegon County Sheriff’s Office.

We’re told the crash happened at the intersection of Whitehall Road and Riley-Thompson Road.

The sheriff's office says a northbound Ford Fusion driven by a 22-year-old male failed to yield to traffic during an attempt to turn west. That was when he turned in front of another Ford Fusion, which was driven by a 69-year-old female, authorities tell us.

The female driver, identified as Sue Ellen Martin-Crowell, succumbed to her injuries, according to the sheriff's office. We're told the other driver, Joshua Gutierrez, died while being transported to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
