MUSKEGON, Mich. — Michigan State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Muskegon Township on Monday night.
According to a new release, the incident happened Monday around 7:00 p.m. on South Sheridan Ave. in Muskegon Twp. MSP says the Muskegon Township Police Department was originally called out for an armed, suicidal man. MSP also responded to the scene.

Detective Lt. Ian Fields with MSP's Fifth District said, "Upon [troopers'] arrival, a subject did present a firearm and a trooper did return fire, striking that subject."
Last night that man was described as being in critical condition. In Tuesday's update, MSP described him as "stable" at the hospital.
No law enforcement officials or neighbors were hurt.
The trooper who fired the shot is on administrative leave, as is policy. Once the investigation is complete, it will be submitted to the Michigan Dept. of Attorney general for review.
