MUSKEGON, Mich. — People coming to visit The Deck at Muskegon's Pere Marquette Park next summer will have plenty of things to do while they wait for a table.

The barbecue restaurant is expanding to include about 12,000 feet of beach property.

The area will be fenced in and have volleyball and bocce ball courts, cornhole and other games. There will also be an outside bar and stage that are both in shipping containers.

Co-owner Fred Scharmer said the current seating capacity of 325 at the restaurant just wasn't enough anymore.

Expanding will allow The Deck to have around 85 more seats for the restaurant and standing room in the beach area for about 900 people.

The stage will host musical acts Thursday through Saturday ranging from reggae to country to cover bands and more.

Scharmer hopes to have the expansion ready for the public by Memorial Day.
