Kids' Food Basket expanding in West Michigan

Posted
and last updated

Kids' Food Basket is expanding to Ottawa and Allegan Counties.

The expansion comes as the need for more food is growing in communities across West Michigan.

The organization started 18 yeas ago feeding 125 students in Kent County but the need is growing in Ottawa County.

Currently, there are six schools on the waiting list.

Back in 2008-2009, Kids' Food Basket started receiving requests for services in Ottawa and Allegan counties and at the time didn't have the resources needed to grow.

In 2015, the organization started serving kids from its Lakeshore location at Peace Lutheran Church in Holland.

For the past five years, we have been serving Sack Suppers, critical evening meals made with love, at six schools in Ottawa County.

Each weekday, Kids' Food Basket feeds 1,100 children healthy food out of this location but that’s only 10% of the kids in need.
