SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — Two people kayaking on Lake Michigan found themselves stranded when winds pushed them farther and farther out onto Lake Michigan off north of the South Haven channel on Tuesday.

Personnel with South Haven Area Emergency Services were sent to the scene at Packard Park around 2:05 p.m. Tuesday and spotted the pair about a mile offshore.

A SHAES first responder commandeered assistance from a person on jet ski and went out to the pair until a SHAES fireboat arrived to take the kayakers to shore.

A Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched but arrived on the scene as the rescue was being accomplished.

No one was injured.
