ALLEGAN, Mich. — The Allegan City Council has approved the creation of a Downtown Allegan Social District.
Customers will be able to consume alcoholic beverages sold by approved establishments from a clearly marked cup in a commons area, a news release said Tuesday.
As of Monday, two businesses have been approved to begin participating in the social district: Schaendorf Brewing Company on Water Street and Tantrick Brewing Company, soon to be relocating to downtown Allegan.
The social district is generally bounded by Cutler Street to the north, Chestnut Street to the west, the Kalamazoo River and State Street to the south and Water Street to the east.
“We are excited to work with others to foster a fun and safe environment for adults in downtown Allegan,” said Kyle Heslip, brewer and co-owner of Schaendorf Brewing Company. ““We are looking forward to this effort not only helping bars and restaurants during the COVID-19 Pandemic, but also helping increase the attraction of Downtown Allegan to potential visitors and customers.”
The social district begins Wednesday.
