BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Members of the Calhoun County Dive Team will continue their search for a 19-year-old Olivet man who police say is believed to have drowned Monday night.

Battle Creek police say it happened around 7 p.m. Monday night area of Hamblin Avenue and Kendall Street where the Kalamazoo and Battle Creek rivers meet.

We're told the man was with a friend who dropped their purse in the water and tried to retrieve it for her. The man was unable to swim and fell into the water and did not make it out.

Officials searched for the victim by boat and drone Monday night but with high water levels and a strong current officials believe the search is now a recovery mission.

The dive team was back out Tuesday morning continuing its search.
