KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Kalamazoo police responded to a crash that led to a fuel leak on Portage Road Wednesday.
A semi transporting a generator, which was described as being too tall to clear the overpass, struck a number of I-beams underneath the bridge, according to Kalamazoo Public Safety.
We’re told this caused a fuel leak to spill from the generator onto the road.
Authorities say the Portage Fire Department managed to block off the storm drains before the fuel could reach them.
MDOT confirmed that the bridge is safe for travel following an inspection, according to public safety, adding that cleanup was assisted by a local environmental company.
