PORTAGE — A man in Kalamazoo County is facing several charges after breaking into a Portage home, threatening people with a knife and kidnapping one of the female victims.
It happened shortly before 1 a.m. in the area of Turdor Circle in Portage.
Police say 2 families were inside the home when the suspect, Cody Forrest Staffeld, 28, broke in and threatened two females. Staffeld allegedly forced one of them in a vehicle before speeding off. Police attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Mall Drive and S. Westnedge Avenue with no luck.
Authorities successfully disengaged the vehicle before taking the suspect into custody.
Staffeld faces the following charges:
Kidnapping
Two Counts of Unlawful Imprisonment
Two Counts of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
· Two Counts of Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer
·Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing a Police Officer Causing Injury
Fleeing and Eluding.
A Portage officer was also injured during the incident and was treated for minor injuries. Police say neither female was injured.
