KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo City Commission rescheduled its Monday meeting due to uncertainty last week over whether public meetings could continue to be held virtually.

The state Legislature last week passed SB1108, which allows virtual public meetings to continue through the end of the year.

However, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer had not announced as of close of business Friday that she had signed the bill, which is required before it takes effect, according to the Commission.

The Commission decided at that time to reschedule its meeting to Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. to ensure it doesn’t violate the Open Meetings Act.

Whitmer announced later Friday evening that she had signed the bill.
