Driver arrested after fleeing from officers; stolen gun recovered

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 17 year old man was arrested after leading police in two chases.

Around midnight on May 9, a Kalamazoo police officer tried to pull over a Chrysler 300 speeding on North Westnedge Avenue.

The Chrysler immediately accelerated away, but police found the vehicle two minutes later on Prairie Street near Fairmount Dog Park.

The driver jumped out and ran north through the park and woods, tossing aside a stolen pistol as officers pursued from further behind.

A K-9 unit then arrived on scene and took over the chase.

They recovered the stolen pistol and quickly located the 17 year old in a garage off of Alamo Avenue.

The suspect is currently booked in the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, as well as several weapons charges.
