BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Organizers of the Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival were hoping theirs would be the first air show in the country to take place in 2020, but continued concerns over COVID-19 forced cancellation of the popular event.

“(We) believed that by July things would be ‘normal’ enough to hold the event,” said executive director Barbara Haluska in a release. She pointed to continuing restrictions on gatherings in Michigan.

“I know the people of Battle Creek will support the return of this event in 2021,” said Battle Creek Mayor Mark Behnke.

The cancellation will prove to be especially disappointing, because the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds were scheduled to return to perform for the first time in five years.
