SPRINGFIELD, Mich. — A Springfield man was tracked down by a police K9 unit and accused of being involved in the assault of three women.

Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a scene in the 300 block of Avenue A in Springfield on the report of a man assaulting three women. It was later found that the man had been assaulting his girlfriend and the other two women tried to intervene when he assaulted them, too, knocking one of them unconscious.

The man took off in a vehicle when deputies arrived. After driving through private yards, the man crashed into a tree, then ran on foot, the sheriff’s department reports in a release.

The man was tracked by a K9 unit and assaulted officers when they went to arrest him. He was finally detained.

The girlfriend the suspect assaulted didn’t cooperate with police and lied to police, so she is charged with hindering a criminal investigation.

The women who intervened were treated for minor injuries at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Anyone who knows anything more about the case is asked to contact the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department at the non-emergency number at 269-781-0911.
