WALKER, Mich. — The city of Walker Planning Commission has approved a planned distribution center for the e-commerce giant Amazon.
At its meeting last night, the commission approved the plan to build a 113,000-square-foot distribution center on a 33-acre parcel across from Kenowa Hills High School, at 4 Mile Road and Hendershot Avenue.
The distribution center would feature nearly 1,100 parking spots for employees and delivery drivers.
It would be active 24/7, with three shifts of workers, according to Walker Community Development Director Frank Wash.
The project is "important to the ongoing development" happening in the area, Wash says in letter to the commission.
City planners also say that the Northridge Drive connection project will help alleviate traffic flow issues. Construction on the road project is expected to wrap up this fall.
Other road projects in the area could be paid for by Amazon.
