GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Investigators have requested a felony homicide warrant for the estranged husband of a woman who was killed in a 2006 stabbing, according to Michigan State Police record.

Documents say Kent County authorities requested an arrest warrant for Michael Pagel on Thursday, more than 13 years after Renee Pagel was found stabbed to death in her Courtland Township home.

Friends of Renee Pagel have been wary of her estranged husband because she was afraid he was going to kill her as they were fighting for custody of their children and property during a divorce.

Michael Pagel was the only person considered a person of interest in the case, but he was never arrested due to a lack of evidence.

Kent County authorities are planning to hold a press conference on the investigation at 2 p.m. Thursday.
