GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Kent County Community Action is planning to hold a food distribution event later this week.

The event hopes to alleviate food insecurity among families that have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Kent County.

The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 121 Franklin Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We’re told the general public is welcome to attend the event, given that attendees are of low-income status.

Kent County says the event is drive-through only, adding that attendees should plan to enter via Jefferson Street with their trunks prepared to receive over 50 pounds of food. Those without transportation are asked to call 616-632-7950.

“This distribution is our way to respond to this crisis as it is our mission to alleviate the causes of poverty,” says Susan Cervantes, director of the KCCA. “This distribution is one of our scheduled quarterly distributions, and we are pleased we can provide relief to families who are in need during this difficult time.”

The distribution event is expected to provide food to at least 900 struggling households.
