GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Things are about to get chilly in downtown Grand Rapids as the largest ice festival in Michigan gets underway Friday.
The annual Valent-Ice Festival-- part of the larger, month-long World of Winter Festival -- will feature more than 50 handmade ice sculptures created by ten different artists.
Randy Finch, one of the participating artists, said this year's festival will include some of the biggest displays it's ever showcased.
"This Friday morning at 3 a.m. we'll be setting out over 50 ice sculptures all over the city, including a giant colored clown fish in front of the Holiday Inn," Finch said. "Then we have a really cool T-rex we've got we're really looking forward to, and then a big surprise on Saturday at Rosa Parks Circle."
In addition to the sculptures, the festival will also see an ice bar set up for adults outside the Downtown Market, along with live sculpting demonstrations beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday.
