GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Amazon is now hiring for more than 1,000 full-time positions ahead of the official launch of its more than 855,000 thousand-square-foot fulfillment center in Gaines Township.
At the facility, Amazon employees will pick, pack and ship items to customers like electronics, books, housewares and toys.
Amazon employees in the Grand Rapids area can earn up to $16.15 per hour.
“We’re excited to join the Grand Rapids community and create great full-time, full-benefit jobs," Amazon spokesperson Andre Woodson told FOX17 over the phone Monday. "It’s a really exciting time for Amazon and hopefully for the community as well.”
On top of Amazon’s $15 minimum wage, the company offers full-time employees industry-leading benefits, which include comprehensive healthcare from day one, 401(k) with 50 percent match, up to 20 weeks paid parental leave and Amazon’s innovative Career Choice program, which pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses in high-demand fields.
“Even if it’s outside of our company," Woodson said, "just to help our employees pursue career paths that are very important and they’re passionate about.”
The site had a positive impact on local businesses before the facility even began hiring, siad Gaines Township Supervisor Robert DeWard.
"They used local plumbing contractors, concrete contractors, asphalt pavers, mechanical contractors," said DeWard. "It does bring jobs in and maybe it’ll serve some of those residents that are marginalized or underserved. Pjust anybody who wants a job," said DeWard.
Job candidates must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent to be considered.
All interested candidates can apply online where they can indicate a shift preference and select an appointment time to attend an upcoming hiring event and orientation. Shift schedules will vary. Veterans and military spouses are encouraged to apply.
